CHILD SWIMSUIT PHOTOSHOOTS
Hoy voy a compartir algunos de mis trabajos de baño infantil. Prefiero niños jugando y divertidos. Me encanta hacerlos jugar, proponerles un acting e involucrarlos para que participen.
Today I would like to share some of the work I have done in child swimsuit fashion. I prefer to shoot children playing and having fun in a relaxed environment. I might suggest a scenario and then see where they go with it.
Voy a divagar sobre diferentes planteamientos que nos encontramos a la hora de abordar uno de estos encargos.
I am going to discuss some of different approaches I take in these situations.
En la fotografía de baño con hombre-mujer las poses están muy estudiadas. Sin embargo cuando hacemos baño infantil buscamos justamente lo contrario, espontaneidad, diversión, naturalidad.
El dilema siempre está en cuanto hay que ver del bañador y cuanto de Acting nos deja hacer el cliente. Acting significa normalmente mucha imagen y poco producto. Lo divertido en el shooting desde luego es dejarles jugar.
In man-woman swimsuit photography, poses are well defined and planned. However, with child photoshoots we look for exactly the opposite: spontaneity and fun. The dilemma is always how much of the bathing suit must be visible in the shot and how much acting the client allows. Acting usually results in a lot of image and little product. The fun in a such a shoot is, of course, to let them play.

Otra de las decisiones que tienes que tomar antes de empezar, es si vas a trabajar con el sol a tus espaldas o vas a hacer contraluces. Personalmente los contraluces me encantan, dibujan modelos y paisajes. Pero has de tener un buen equipo de ayudantes para que puedan iluminar el frente. Hubo una época en que mi equipo me apodaba “Sorollita ”
Another decision you must make before you start shooting is if you are going to work with the sun behind your back or you are going to use backlighting. Personally, I like to work with backlighting, as it outlines models and landscapes. However, you need a good team of assistants to light up the front of the shot. There was a time when my team nicknamed me “Sorollita” (Joaquin Sorolla, Spanish painter renowned for the use of light in his paintings)

Cuando hacemos exteriores, me parece fundamental en la fotografía tratar los fondos como una parte igual de importante que el modelo. Los fondos y localizaciones deben transmitir el estado de ánimo de los niños, y la interacción entre ambos debe ser creíble.
When performing outdoors photoshoots, it’s pivotal to treat the background as equally important as the models. Locations must convey the mood of the children, and the interaction between them must be credible.

Pero no siempre tenemos presupuesto para salir a exteriores. Muchas veces fotografiamos en estudio con un decorado que nunca trata de dar el “pego”. Simplemente se trata de ambientar.
However, we do not always have the budget to shoot outdoors. We often shoot in a studio with a set that conveys the right atmosphere without pretending to be what it is not. It’s all about setting the scene.
